Photography, as in artistic pursuit, reflects the sum total of our learning, experience, bias, and predisposition. As a photographer, I often find myself at the intersection of these forces… working to get out of my own way, to create images that are meaningful and expressive.
My photography largely takes place around small towns and in the city. I live in Loudoun County, VA and work in the DC metro area. Although my images depict streetscapes and cityscapes, it is the mystery (beauty) of things partially seen, illuminated but hidden in shadows, the transient and the ephemeral, that is the subject of much of my work. When ordinary objects and events are found to be extraordinary, images well seen become compelling and alive.
I came to photography more than 40 years ago (film and basic darkroom work). Today, all of my images are captured digitally and printed using archival pigment inks and fine art archival papers. I am a juried artist of the Torpedo Factory Art Center, and pleased to be a member of the Multiple Exposures Gallery.
